American Standard has come out with a new item that does sound very interesting. I haven't used it but if it's as good as they say it is, then good bye allergies and Flu. From what I've read is that this will reduce allergens and particles in your home by 99.98%. It sounds as though it has to be professionally installed in your home but it does come with a pretty good warranty.
It looks like it works so much better than our normal furnace / air conditioner air filters that are 1 inch thick and disposable. It says that they are actually better than the Whole House Electronic Filtration. It states that it can catch particles as small as .1 micron. That's not 1 micron, the specifications state 0.1 microns, which is crazy small. The average human hair is about 50 microns thick, so that means this filter will pick up something that is 1/500th as big as a human hair. (Right? Did I do that math correctly?) It also states that it catches animal dander before it even touches the floor.
The filters are reusable after washing them. That's a great idea to cut down on ongoing costs. The system would be pretty low maintenance and really helpful. I have 2 young kids and I live in Phoenix. It's really hot here, there's a ton of construction, and it's the desert. When you add these things up, you have a perfect formula for dust blowing around constantly. And try to convince a 5 year old to keep the back door closed when he goes in and out. The dust comes in constantly and my whole family suffers badly from allergies.
We've tried humidifiers with limited success to cut down on allergens in the house. I've been considering one of those ionizers, but would have to buy a few, one for each room. I'd love to have a built in system which I didn't have to look at, see, hear, and clean constantly.
I'm very much considering getting the AccuClean Whole Home Air Filtration System installed in my house before the fall flu season starts. If I end up getting it installed, I'll share my experiences here.
