I run this site (and a few others) from home.  Instead of using the home phone all of the time, I decided to get a different phone system installed for work.  After reading about what's available, I bought a Cisco 7960 phone and had an Asterisk / Trixbox server installed.  Then I signed up with Broadvoice for a phone number and phone service.

For the first week, the service was great.  I always had the ability to make calls.

And then it changed.  Broadvoice emailed me that I needed to "activate" my account by photocopying my credit card and emailing it to them.  So I did.  After 2 days, I sent it again.  Then I called.  After waiting on hold for 30 minutes, I was told that they have the documents and it will be activated "in a few hours".

Guess what?  Yeah, you guessed it, no phone service.

I called back, waited 30 minutes to talk to someone, and was informed that I've not sent the documents.  Frustrated, I explained that I had sent them, and I was told to send them again.  And I was hung up on.

So I send the documents again.  After a few days, I call back and they state that they have not received them.  So I send them a fourth time, and the person on the phone acknowledges receiving my documents.  But after the required time passes, still no service.  So I call back (another 30 minute wait) and I'm told that they don't have the documents.

I tell the support person to cancel my account.  He says that I have to email them to cancel.  After I explain that emailing them is useless, he says nobody there can cancel my account and I have to email.

(Note, an interesting thing with Broadvoice support, if you ask to speak to a manager, you get disconnected.  This was my experience each of the 3 times I asked for a manager.)

My account is canceled, and I will urge you to stay as far away from Broadvoice as possible.  This company cannot and will not survive for long by treating customers like this.  Even if this is not your experience, just the simple fact that they are treating some customers like this shows that they will not be around for too long.  Cancel your service while you still have the phone number and transfer it to a much better VOIP provider.
