In "N's" quest for learning, I had done a lot of research and decided to buy this instead of the Leapster L-Max because I didn't want to pay the extra $20 to let "N" sit in front of the TV, since that one can hook up to it. Leap Frog has around 42 different games out and just so you know, the L-max games can be played on the regular Leapster. I also bought the rechargeable battery pack since I figured that he would play it and batteries are expensive for it.

I think he has five games for it:

  • Diego Animal Rescuer
  • Thomas and Friends Calling All Engines
  • Cars
  • Talking Words Factory
  • Letters on the Loose

I will review the games later. But anyway, when you buy the console it comes with 2 games one it, plus I think a game to color with and things like that.

I like this because it is portable, it will grow with him for the next few years, it is educational, he has dropped it quite a few times and it still works, very durable. It does help them learn because you can buy games that will help them with writing, (which that game is hard to find in the stores though) reading, math and all the skills they will need for school. When you buy the different games, as the child gets to know it, he/she can make the levels become a little more difficult which is nice because then that game will last that much longer.

There are a good amount of games out there for this system and it looks like they teach about the same things. What I do like about it is that you don't know which game will help them learn better. "N" plays all of his games and there are times where he plays Cars more than Diego, it just gives him variety. There is also a headphone jack on it as well for when you're traveling.

Once you get past the initial shock of spending $60 for the game system, $35 for the rechargeable battery pack (a must) and then depending on the game up to $25, which you can find them on sale sometimes for either Buy One, Get One Free or Buy One, Get One Half Off.

When you look at the prices I gave you, it is a good investment because it's great for kids ages 4-10. They have pink for girls and the green and silver for the boys. I don't know if it's worth the extra cost for the L-Max which will let them play it on the TV or not but I think the regular is fine, plus it's cheaper.
