I received this product from Symantec a few weeks ago, and have had a good chance to try it out. Overall, I like the Norton 360 product. It combines some of the standard security software I like with some software I didn't know I would like. I had McAfee installed and removed it. I wasn't sad to see it go. I really didn't like McAfee, it didn't stop one virus from infecting my computer and I don't think it did much.
Norton 360 installation was pretty painless. It took a while to install, but it was installing a lot. Once installed, I scanned my computer for virus and there were none found. All antivirus programs will slow down your computer a little bit, but I don't really notice Norton. I have Vista and a Dell Inspiron laptop with 3 GB of RAM.
The online backup feature is great. Online backup is a service which everyone SHOULD use. Everyone. Are you listening? EVERYONE!! Backing up to an external hard drive is useless. If something happens to your house, your data is gone. If you forget to back up, your data is gone. Online backup is safe, even if you don't think so. My husband is a software developer and he knows something about online backup. The online backup providers cannot see your files.
The antispyware features work nicely. I like to visit MySpace and other random web sites. I worry that I will get spyware. I used to use my iMac to visit these sites, but now that I have Norton 360 installed, I'm not worried about visiting them in Windows Vista.
I think Best Buy sells Norton 360 for around $80. It's definitely worth it. Once your computer is messed up from spyware or a virus or a bad hard drive, you would gladly pay $80 to get it all back. Think of it as an insurance policy. Peace of mind.
